Hartzell Engine Technologies - Turbocharger Systems
As the largest manufacturer of general aviation turbocharging systems, Hartzell Engine Technologies supplies all of the major engine OEMs. Originally designed by Honeywell/Garrett and Rajay, Hartzell has invested in engineering development and software tools to create superior, proprietary system designs. While the turbocharger is the heart of a turbocharging system, the full system is comprised of multiple components working together. Each unit is inspected and certified, guaranteeing premium quality and serious boost.
Turbochargers
To match aircraft turbochargers to engine specifications, Hartzell offers several size classes. Spanning the engine range from the Rotax 914 to the largest Continentals and Lycomings used in pressurized aircraft, Hartzell's aircraft turbochargers are available for any size and performance requirements.
Turbochargers convert wasted energy, in the form of hot exhaust gases, into increased manifold pressure to increase the power available from the engine. The exhaust gases spin a turbine wheel at high speeds, commonly in excess of 100,000 rpm. The turbine wheel is connected to a compressor wheel that compresses the engine intake air, increasing its density.
